about

Inspired initially by the experience of playing (albeit on only two occasions) with legendary guitarist John Abercrombie, I knew the next album I did had to focus on the guitar. Then I thought, "why stop at one guitar?" And though I've been listening for years to bands with two guitars, that wasn't really what was driving me. It was more that I had already written some things with Abercrombie's sound in my mind and once I made the decision to record with these three amazing players, I started writing more music that I could imagine them playing. I also tried to leave as much up to them as possible so that the album (and the quartet) could develop with everyone's input.

Hilmar was an obvious choice since we had been working together with Angelika Niescier and I'm in love with his sound and his approach to the chords I write. I'm a big fan of his work with Jim Black and Arve Henriksen.

Pierre and I have played together with Nicolas Moreaux and every time I hear him I'm blown away. You should listen to his project called Fox with Moreaux, Chris Cheek and Jorge Rossy. It's incredible.

I first met Mats in Haugasund, Norway where I heard him play with Tord Gustavson. After that concert he went to the top of my "must play with" list... and luckily we were able to make it happen this time. I have listened to his album Sails Set so much I should have to pay extra.
